september 1st, 2009 the new super time pilot album dropped. it is available at newbury comics everywhere, and online via newbury comics. it is a fantastic collaborative effort from rob potylo (robby roadsteamer) and nikki dessingue. i haven’t been able to stop listening since i got the album.

it’s exciting to see roadsteamer in a new creative light, and experience brand new music all at once.

i’ve already caught them live at the middle east upstairs last month, and it was fantastic. unfortunately i will be missing the CD release party at TT the Bear’s this saturday. alas…

the album is long, the songs are catchy, and if you take a listen you’ll definitely find yourself hitting repeat.

seriously, i cannot deny the fact that i am totally and 100% completely obsessed with true blood. and NO, it is not “twilight for grownups”, even though it may seem that way.

plus, the actors on true blood are actually ohhhsosexyfine, for REALS…so you know, there’s that. also there’s a good chance that they are naked at least one entire episode.

oh i mean, it’s funny, and i’m all about the plotlines…

of course.

SHARK WEEK FRIDAY!

last night, we actually saw some shark week programming that was not 100% completely assy and lame. in fact, i twas pretty damn cool. also, it provided yet another item on the list of “reasons to move to seattle”: six gill sharks swarm the waters at night. fuck yeah.

anyway, friday’s shark of the day is: the goblin shark (Mitsukurina owstoni).
size: up to 11 ft. / up to 350 lbs.
habitat: deep-water shark usually found near the sea bottom, at depths of around 250 m.
prey: deep-sea squid, crabs and fishes (NOT harmful to humans!!!)
fun facts: the goblin shark has a soft, flabby body, is colored bubblegum pink, and has a peculiar, blade-like snout overhanging long, highly protrusible jaws bristling with slender, fang-like teeth. the color is not due to pink pigments in the skin, however, but largely due to oxygenated blood in capillaries (tiny blood vessels) close to the body surface and visible through the translucent dermis.

i’m a bit disillusioned by shark week this year. why does it suck so hard? why so many “survivor” stories that are totally fucking with the notion that SHARKS DON’T EAT PEOPLE!?!?!? fuckers. also, discovery totally had some douche on there talking about how he shot a BEACHED AND GASPING-TO-DEATH shark in the head with a gun.

fuckers.

anyway, the shark of the day today is: the frilled shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus), sometimes called the frill shark.
size: 3.2-4.9 ft. (recorded up to 6.5 ft.)
habitat: southeast australia, new zealand, southeast asia, west africa, chile and the caribbean at depths between 160 and 660 feet
prey: cephalopods and sometimes other sharks (read: DOES NOT EAT PEOPLE!)
fun facts: the frilled shark’s mouth reveals 300 trident-shaped teeth aligned in 25 rows, and its jaws terminate at the back of its head rather than the bottom of its skull. also, due to it’s very thin and narrow physique, scientists initially suspected it was a type of eel. as it turns out, it is one of the most primative shark species still living today and has not changed significantly in millions of years.

many sharks undergo long gestation periods, but the frilled shark could actually break the world’s record. although research on this matter is still ongoing, scientists suspect frilled sharks could gestate for up to three and a half years! an average litter consists of six pups, many of which may not survive into adulthood; thus reproduction in the shark’s deep-sea habitat is slow at best. since temperatures are also colder at such levels, its metabolic cycle is thought to be equally sluggish.
