it’s no secret that i wish we could’ve stayed in maine longer. though, this mini-vacation was exactly what i needed to just rest, recharge and fuckin’ deal with the world right now. the weather ~~outside is weather~~was gorgeous, the trip was relaxing, and maine is fantastic.

we got a bit of beach time every day, but there wasn’t any swimming this time. granted, i’m so glad we managed to get out there one more time but it was pretty late in the season. however, if i lived in maine i’d spend every day getting in some beach time, even if for a few minutes.

cannot wait for season 3 to officially start. even though i know the finale was a really crappy cgi-green-screen-i-choose-myself moment, i don’t care. the show is so fabulous. and i know that they’re going to stretch out the henry vs. gio thing as long as possible, but what-evs!

i want my betty, damnit! and everything that that includes: clueless yet adorable daniel; fierce and snarky amanda & mark; ignacio!!!; and even wilhelmina. plus, a chance to hear a scottish accent, score!

and ok, so maybe i favor gio over henry. they’re both attractive, and both have character flaws, but at the end of the day i’d much rather lick freddy rodriguez. sure, christopher gorham is hot…but he’s really fuckin’ oddly shaped. like…seriously disproportionate. wtf is up with that?

apparently your birthday month can be filled with all kinds of awesome if you pay attention to all the free shit and discounts people throw your way. right here you’ll see the incredibly adorable new shoes i just ordered. they were out of my size in-store (wtf is up with all these size 9 and 10 shoes!?) yet selling for $22. online not only were they on sale but because august is the month i was born in, i get $10 off my order. how cool is that? it covered shipping entirely, plus an order of really awesome fishnets (i was totally running out).

yesterday, we went to the natick mall and took advantage of my ‘happy birthday from godiva’ coupon and not only got lots of yummy treats for a discount but i also got free chocolate! awesomesauce. plus, i had a gift certificate to LUSH and got 2 free items on top of my order AND hit an insane sale at jcp. oh, and the boy got me the cutest hat ever. though, who knew hats could be so damn expensive? i guess it’s the extra $$$ for the feather…

fuckin’ retail therapy, man.

seriously, though, i cannot wait until my new shoes arrive (OMG SHOES!) because they are too cute. and the sandal season is fast approaching a close, unfortunately.

doesn’t it ever make you wonder just who the fuck they’re really marketing to in all those pill commercials?

if you watch ANY tv at all, you do notice all the “birth control” pills out there are like OMG WTF LOL NO PERIODS! and rarely mention anything about how they totally like, stop a baby from invading your uterus and bursting forth out of your cooter like some beastly thing out of Aliens. cuz you know, that’s totally not the point. obviously.

but man, those pesky periods…they’re the real culprit. obvs.

today’s shark is the shortfin mako shark!!! i’ve honestly been waiting all week for this shark, it’s that awesome. something about the makos totally endears them to me, they’re a stout, powerful fish. they are incredibly fast fish, with some recorded bursts of speed of up to 74 mph. incredible for a 1000 lb. fish! they also are capable of leaping high into the air out of the water. unfortunately all this speed and power makes them a favorable game shark for sport fishing and thus they are highly sought-after for pure sport.

known as isurus oxyrinchus, vital stats are:

it’s latin name means “sharp nose”
makos can grow anywhere from 6-9 ft. long
makos are mackerel sharks that are incredibly fast swimmers and can also leap out of the water.
makos eat schooling fish, including tuna, herring, mackerel, swordfish, and porpoise. They are opportunistic feeders, eating just about anything.
the name “mako” comes from the m?ori language, meaning either the mako shark or a shark tooth.
mako pups are cannabalistic in the womb.
mako sharks do not survive in captivity, the longest one lasted was mere days before it died.

today’s shark is the angel shark! it’s not your typical shark, ya know? it looks a little bit more like a skate or a ray, but make no mistake, this is a shark. for reals and for true. and i’ve always been a bit fond of it.

last year during shark week there was a really awesome show featuring nothing but angels, and it was amazing. these are some really interesting sharks. despite their looks and their build, they actually have a really powerful bite.

of the genus squatina, vital stats are:

angel sharks bury themselves in sand or mud, and then jump up to snap up prey
they’re pretty damn docile for sharks, if left alone, they won’t attack
the genus name squatina is derived from Latin, meaning “a kind of shark”
they can grow up to 60″, with a maximum reported age of 35 years
they can reach up to 60 lbs.
larger sharks, including white sharksare potential predators of the angelshark.
