roadsteamer residency night #1: rousing success!

i was going to do this whole…”in 2007 [blank] happened” kind of thing. or maybe a review or recap of all that bullshit. but who has time for that anymore?
instead i got my shit together, went out and made 2007 2008. good booze, great music, fantastic evening all around. i had been looking forward to seeing campaign for real time again since october, and they did not disappoint. not in the slightest, man. it was…unbelievable.
provocateur was pretty god damned amazing as well. i look forward to more of their music in the year to come.
and basically, that’s it. i rocked out with my cock out. my future baby daddy touched me (and i touched him!), and for one fucking night all was well. all manner of things was well. i only hope that i can hold on to some of that…because right now everything is unending suck.
for one great night…everything was perfect.
and 2007, it is O V E R!
this tuesday: LRP comes out. go to newbury comics, get the album, be a time bomb. it’s going to be great, and if you don’t take my word for it, check out robby rockin’ some rush ‘n attack action in worcester. magical.
my only regret is that i will not be here to see it live, man. but you can: thursday, december 13th • TT the Bear’s • Cambridge, MA • 9:00 pm.
DO IT!
it’s been nearly 4 years since that first drunken night in o’brien’s and my love for robby roadsteamer has done nothing but grow and flourish. it started with a little known group called the sweatpants boners and it has grown into the massively rockin’ ROADSTEAMER, a phenomenon. i’ve gone to as many shows as humanly possible and every new album i more awesome than the previous, it just keeps getting better and better.
and really, how can you not love robby? he’s a provider.

i can honestly say that robby — in whatever incarnation he is focused on at the moment — is one of the only redeeming factors of boston; hell, he’s one of the only redeeming factors of new england. period.
and before the year is up, robby is going to grace world with yet another example of his musical genius. from the man himself:
The title of my new solo acoustic album is “LRP” (which are my real initials if your wondering) I’ve been playing this blowhard Hulk Hogan rock character for the past seven years with my band Roadsteamer, and as a DJ on WBCN… With the money I’ve decided to record an acoustic album on my own with the idea that if I was to pass away tomorrow what would I want to say on an album. It’s all about the shittier side of the Boston music scene, and also living in my sneakers… With a kickass song about the video game Altered Beast thrown in the mix! I know there’s 5000 local bands in Boston fighting for your ADD… So am I.
i have to say, i applaud robby for breaking out of his shell and really putting himself out there for the world to see. i know this album is very important to him, and i’m just thrilled he’s going to share it with everyone. it feels weird, having this kind of familiarity with an artist…and i certainly don’t want to take it for granted or overestimate it, but i’m also really excited. on the one hand “robby roadsteamer” is this fantastical time bomb, rocking stages across new england like you wouldn’t believe. and on the other hand, he’s a real person that you can actually talk to and approach.
hell, i still don’t think i’ve reconciled that in my mind entirely.
what i do know, however, is that this is going to be my last great concert of the year, and i wouldn’t miss it for the world. you shouldn’t either:
December 13th, 2007: TT THE BEARS (CD RELEASE PARTY!) in Cambridge, Mass – Robby will be doing a solo acoustic show in support of his new album (LRP)… All the money raised from CD Sales and Robby’s share at the door will go to Street Steamers Jenna and Kristy. Who lost their apartment to a horrible fire and have shitty vet bills for their cat (Rhea) that was injured in the fire… Please donate at the show too!!! Also on the bill is Kier Byrnes, The Snowleopards, And Jason Dunn. All Acoustic… All night! (Robby goes on at 10 pm)
Tickets: $10 * 18+
10 Brookline St * Cambridge, MA
i already pre-ordered mine, you definitely should get yours: “Well I would love if anyone bought a few for loved ones off the Newbury Website…. It’s only 5 bucks…. 5 bucks for 14 tracks of this old Veteran… I’m going to write some lovely shit on every one of them.. Each one will be different. Thanks again for all your support.” — Robby
i’m leaving for colorado in about 5 hours. just a little over, in fact. work is piling up and making me insane, and i’m convinced i’m going to flat out forget something.
it’s all overwhelming. i’m hoping that graves is around tonight or i’m stranded, but who knows.
everything is poop.
last night we went to see freezepop and it was so hot and uncomfortable and full of douchebaggy assholes. missed most of the show, which sucked unholy bad. but, i did get to hang out with alex and lindsay and their really spiffy friendlies, so it wasn’t a total loss.
i’m so not ready to leave…
last night the boy & i went to see interpol at the agganis arena. though i didn’t have any clue at the time, we totally scored some REALLY UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME SEATS. we were five rows back from right stage, down on the floor. close enough to see the buttons on carlos d’s vest, and the newly trimmed-down line of his moustache. utterly fabulous.
and while i know there are a lot of folks out there who think every new interpol album is “no where near as awesome as turn on the bright lights” after seeing them for the third time now, they rock so hard and no less than they ever have. they played all of my favorite songs and a hefty lineup from our love to admire. also: we were so close, it rocked!
of course, you’re always faced with suck-ass crowds in new england. even at the most rockin’-est of shows, boston crowds are listless, bored-looking, douchey and usually immobile. at least people bothered to stand up for interpol last night. there was a half-way decent response and thus we got a pretty nice little encore. besides, the boys in interpol are classy showmen, and so there’s never a doubt of them putting on an entertaining show.
also, carlos will someday be my future baby daddy. i think the boy liked them, too. i hope he did cuz it was so much fun.
i would like to thank chip for sending me this, to make my day. if you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t yet heard…the patriots are dirty, filthy, lying, rotten CHEATERS. also: i hate them. belichick is just a lousy douche of a coach, and frankly i’d much rather have my boys play legitimately and lose than resort to unsportsmanlike practices and “win”. belichick has to go, man.
“It’s not their first time,” a member of the committee, who did not wish to be identified, said.
In fact, Green Bay Packers president Bob Harlan confirmed a similar incident that occurred when the Patriots played at Lambeau Field last Nov. 19. The same cameraman who was questioned by NFL security on Sunday was also the one whom the Packers removed from the sideline and escorted from the field during their 2006 game, according to Packers security official Doug Collins.
“From what I can remember, he had quite a fit when we took him out,” Harlan said. “We had gotten word before the game that they [the Patriots] did this sort of thing, so we were looking for it.”
yeah, i’m not surprised that there have been questionable practices with the patriots in the past. as a life-long raiders fan, i’m no stranger to the suspicious, and outright fucked up new england practices. i have a healthy loathing for tom brady — his face fills me with a murderous rage —that is second only to my hatred of john fuckin’ elway. all i can say right now is, i’m glad those fuckers got caught, because they completely deserve it. completely.
