and it was a close one, boys and girls. mighty close. 17 point lead down by end of 2nd quarter, within 2 points for a goodish portion of the game, and a shameful — so shameful – kick return touchdown by the titans that ThankFootballJesus! got returned & lead to a safety touchdown. oh man oh man, interceptions and close calls galore. all of it leading up to my boys in the silver&black emerging victorious. fuck yeah!

in my concert-going spree of this fall, i couldn’t — absolutely could NOT — resist getting tickets ASAP for this one…last…concert. seriously, how could i miss out on seeing one of my future baby daddies when i was so thoroughly hosed out of seeing him this summer at some random smack-ass school venue? hell no!
and that’s right…this girl’s goin’ to see mos def — and talib kweli! — on december 1st! right here in boston. omg, i know NIN is in a couple of weeks and i should be fired up for that (i am!), but i am overcome with glee at the fact that not only is mos def going to be in boston, but i got tickets to see him! w00t!!!!
i think that will be a great way to round out a season of extreme concert-going awesomeness this year.

with the outburst of complete assy weather lately, i find myself missing the Fall That Never Was more and more. diving headfirst into winter just doesn’t feel right, you know? nevermind the fact that it also includes freezing my figurative balls off.
i miss all the vivid colors of the changing leaves, wandering aimlessly through streets in red & gold & orange & rust.
the bright sunshine and the crisp, autumn air. digging up sweaters & jackets that have been buried all summer and getting a reprieve from the humidity of doom.
i miss fall, because it is so pretty. and calming. and gives you some time of mourning for those long, hazy summer days…and nights.
i spent most of the day trying to dry off my jeans that were soaked through waiting for the bus this morning, as well as avoiding any and all reason to leave the office until absolutely necessary because new england is in the clutches of a particularly fiesty storm. mind you, i love the rain. warm summer showers & thunderstorms of flashy awesomeness are great. not the key word: warm. this onslaught of rain is not in the slightest bit awesome, even if the wind does manage to make the raindops fall horizontally…i am not amused. furthermore, it just goes to strengthen the sinking feeling i’ve been getting (along with periodically achy kneecaps) that my hopes for a lovely, colorfull fall were foolish and winter is already creeping in to set up camp for the next 50 billion months.
the T must be thinking the same thing, because it has promptly decided to stop functioning in any way even remotely close to useful or efficient. i’m starting to think i should invest in a pack of sledding dogs for the winter, and mayhaps a kicky sled for them to drag me on. because it would surely be a better deal than standing on random bus corners wishing my possibly imaginary bus will show up sometime in the next century, or eeking along on some random dilapidated B-line train as geriatric pedestrians blow past. then again, being crushed up against a bunch of damp, cranky, smelly strangers like so many rotting sardines in a can is pretty sexy. highlight of the damned day, yo. it’s only better if you have to use your umbrella to beat off your fellow commuters (i know what i said) just to get out the damned door at your stop. because, you know, the T is so damned exciting and fun to ride on that everyone wants to join in. like, right now! no, NOW! even if you’re halfway down the steps out…i’m sure they’re only thinking out for your well-being, not wanting you to give up your precious public transportation time so soon…cuz you know, people are nice like that.

and you know, i hadn’t quite realized she was that old, really. i mean, rosa parks is this near-mythical persona, she was a living legend. and while some argue that really she didn’t do anything more than sit her tired ass down, she made an impact on the nation. true, she was no dr. king, no malcom x…but…at least everyone has heard of rosa parks. (this is a generous assumption as far as the southern states are concerned)
however, while death is always a sad thing wrought with mourning and loss, you can’t help but think ms. parks lived a full life, and that it was good. she certainly lived a long life, or maybe as long as needed for her own personal fulfillment; but at the very least, now she’s free of this tormented world and all of its suffering. finally free.
